SPV - Virtual Private Space

SPV, the Virtual Private Space (Spațiul Privat Virtual), is the online account through which you communicate with ANAF, the Romanian tax authority. For an SRL or a PFA, it is where official messages, notifications and tax documents arrive, and where declarations can be filed or checked.

In short, it is your tax inbox.

Even if you have an accountant and do not log in daily, it is important to know it exists, who has access to it and what happens there.

Enrolment and access are done from the ANAF portal: Register/enrol in the Virtual Private Space.

It is another example of a clunky state platform: the interface is awkward, the steps are not always clear, and legal entities need a qualified digital certificate. Don't expect a friendly experience, go step by step and keep your access details.

What SPV is for

In SPV you can, depending on the type of entity and the access configured:

  • receive messages and notifications from ANAF;
  • check tax obligations;
  • download documents or decisions;
  • file tax declarations;
  • see the status of submitted declarations;
  • work with RO e-Invoicing;
  • communicate electronically with ANAF.

ANAF lists SPV, electronic filing of declarations and the enrolment of natural/legal persons in its online services area. Access for legal entities generally uses a qualified digital certificate.

Who usually uses it

If you have an SRL, the accountant will usually use SPV for declarations, checks and tax communication. Still, the company's administrator should know how SPV is accessed and where the important notifications land.

If you have a PFA, you can use SPV yourself or through an accountant. For a simple PFA you may handle the single declaration and check your obligations on your own, but as income grows or more complex situations appear, an accountant becomes useful.

The link with the digital signature

For a company, access to SPV is tied to a qualified digital signature. In practice, a natural person authenticates and signs electronically as administrator, legal representative or authorised person.

If you work with an accountant, you may need to authorise them so they can file declarations or manage access. In some cases this can mean a notarised power of attorney or authorisation documents accepted under the ANAF procedure.

SPV and e-Invoicing

RO e-Invoicing is tied to SPV. Electronic invoices are sent and received through the ANAF systems, and access goes through the account and certificate configured for the company.

This means SPV is not only for annual declarations. It also becomes important for invoicing, especially if you have an active company with clients, suppliers or an accountant handling e-Invoicing.

What to check as a founder

Even if you have an accountant, it is worth knowing:

  • who has access to SPV for your company;
  • which email the notifications go to;
  • who checks the messages received;
  • who files the declarations;
  • who handles e-Invoicing;
  • whether the digital signature is active;
  • whether the accountant's authorisation is valid;
  • what happens if you change accountants.

It is not a good idea for your company's SPV to be a "black box" that only someone else can access while you know nothing.

Practical recommendation

For an SRL, the simplest thing is to talk to your accountant right after incorporation:

"Who does the SPV enrolment, who receives the notifications, who handles e-Invoicing, and what do I have to sign?"

For a PFA, you can start on your own if the activity is simple, but note your access details, deadlines and obligations early. You can keep them in My Own Company Details.

SPV is not a tool you must use daily, but it is something you must have configured correctly. It is a critical piece of fiscal infrastructure: digital signature → SPV → e-Invoicing, declarations and ANAF notifications.
